The retaining ring is used in conjunction with the O-ring or star ring to prevent the sealing ring from being squeezed into the gap on the low-pressure side under the action of pressure. As the pressure continues to increase, the sealing ring is damaged by "extrusion" and eventually fails to seal. If a retaining ring is used, the "extrusion" of the sealing ring can be prevented. Therefore, the retaining ring is a supplement to the sealing ring. It is not a seal itself, but it increases the working pressure range of the sealing ring.
The retaining ring is used in conjunction with the O-ring to prevent it from "extrusion", effectively protect the O-ring, increase its service life, and allow a larger sealing gap, thereby reducing processing costs.

Retaining ring form and structure type
Technical Data
Working pressure: static seal can reach about 200Mpa (depending on the material and seal type of the retaining ring), reciprocating seal can reach about 40Mpa. Swing/slow speed rotation can reach about 15Mpa.
Speed: reciprocating and rotation can reach about 2m/s (depending on the material).
